An intellectual practice for leadership

The REAL
Framework.

Reflection. Evaluation. Learning & Leverage. Action. A practice for examining what we believe, what we do, and what becomes possible when we are willing to see more clearly.

01 / The method

Four movements.
One practice.

REAL is a cyclical framework. Its four elements are connected rather than a checklist to complete once. Select a stage to explore what it asks of a leader.

01 / Reflection

See before you decide.

Reflection begins with the willingness to notice what is happening within us and around us before choosing a response. It creates room to examine the stories we tell ourselves.

A question worth sitting with
What am I seeing—and what might I be missing?
02 / A deeper look at reflection

S.E.E.

The three reflections that build REAL clarity

S.E.E. is the backbone of Reflection within the REAL Framework. It asks us to notice three perspectives: how we see ourselves, how we see others, and how others see us.

Get still to see real.

Self-reflection begins with stillness. Notice what is happening inside you, what stories you're rehearsing, and what truths you may be avoiding.

What am I feeling beneath what I'm showing?

Original S.E.E. teaching resource with the three mirrors—Self, Each Other and External View—and their reflection prompts

“Which mirror feels the hardest to face right now—and why?”

04 / The intellectual work

A body of thought.
A practice of inquiry.

Books, research, and leadership work reveal the questions that have shaped the ideas behind Pineapple Lampshade. They are presented as distinct contributions—not as claims that one necessarily caused another.

05 / From framework to practice

Knowing is only
the beginning.

REAL is designed to support the ongoing work of leadership: noticing what is happening, examining the impact of our behavior, learning from what we discover, and putting that learning into practice.
